Surya Says Singam 2 Is a Winner !

5/07/2013
The much anticipated movie from Surya, Singam 2 will be roaring from today. Here is an excerpt from the Surya's recent interview to Times of India where he talks about about how Singam 2 evolved, Hansika and much more..

As a character, how close is Duraisingam to your heart?
I believe in being black or white. I don't try to be grey. If I don't like something, I say it. And, Duraisingam is a bit like that. He has his own values. When someone asks him why you're obeying what your family members said, he tells them, 'Who else will I obey if not my family?' He's God fearing and likes his work a lot. That's evident because he respects the police department and treats the police station like a temple. I'm also like that — I've got so much from the film industry and so, try to be as true and sincere as possible to my work.

When did the idea of a sequel come to mind?
After three years of Singam, when Hari and I got together, everybody was asking — what next? Obviously, everybody expected a lot of energy on screen and entertainment. Much feedback was coming in for Singam, which had an open ending. I'm a Duraisingam fan and was thinking if it can get bigger and better. If not for the content, we wouldn't have stepped into it. So, we believed, took responsibility and took it forward. I've seen the film and I know that we have a winner in our hands.

You've stated that Hansika was a revelation in Singam II... why's that?
Hansika had to emote for different set of situations — it was all challenging, but she handled it with so much ease. There was no nervousness or confusion. She'd just come into a scene, deliver and then say, 'OK, so what next?' She could just switch off and on like that. That's a special skill. After this film, a lot of people will like her for her acting skills, apart from her charm and good looks.

Tell us about the South African schedule in the film...
We shot in the Herb market in Durban, SA. Before the schedule, we were given instructions how to behave there — not to look anyone directly in the eye, and all that. It was scary. But the location was so real — the Herb market is exactly the way it was 60 years ago. You'll get everything there — crow's feet, the tail of a fox... you name it, and it'll be there. They believe those have medicinal properties. When we were shooting, we heard some gun shots nearby. When we enquired, someone told us that two taxi drivers had shot each other in the next street! It was an experience I won't forget.

Is there a possibility of Singam III?
It depends on how big a hit this is. We're open to it; well, at least, I'm open to it. It's up to Hari sir now as he has to think bigger and better than this one!
