I Did not Want to Make a Sequel to Singam Says Hari

1/07/2013
Director Hari is all set to break the Kollywood cliche that Sequels never work with his Singam II. The director revealed in a recent interview to a leading tabloid that he did not want to make the sequel just for the sake of it, instead  "There was already a story waiting to be told in the first film. I think that is why those who have seen the film so far are impressed by how Singam 2 has come out. It is the script that decides the characters. For instance, director K Vishwanath appears in a couple of scenes in this film and when we were casting, I couldn't think of anyone else who could add weight to that role. I do not want any viewer to say that though the film was good but a couple of actors did not fit their roles. Casting strengthens a scene and it involves 5-10 per cent of the production work in my films. In fact, when we shot in South Africa, Suriya was the only Indian actor and the other 40 actors were all foreigners.
Hari also addressed the fans opinion that the Singam 2 was too similar to the first film, "Of course, it will look like Singam. This is its sequel. I consider it to be one of the strengths. If it feels different to the first film, then, how could you call it a sequel? You will notice the difference between the two films only when you see the entire film".
